Apprenticeship Training Grant Awarded to MassHire Hampden

State Senator Adam Gomez joined the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) and the Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) today to announce a $250,000 grant being awarded to MassHire Hampden County Workforce Board in Springfield as part of the Healy-Driscoll Administration’s GROW Apprenticeship Award. This grant award will go towards implanting 45 new healthcare and behavioral health apprenticeships through MassHire in Springfield, the region’s primary planner and convener addressing workforce development issues.

The third-term Senator had this to say on the grant being award today, “Apprenticeships like the ones being offered through these grants provide job seekers with the high-quality, hands on training that they need to find good jobs and lasting careers. I am proud of this administration for focusing our attention on building the workforce from the inside out, bringing training directly to areas that need the workforce and investing in people there. I look forward to seeing these funds be put to work.”

EOLWD’s Division of Apprentice Standards (DAS) is responsible for promoting, developing, and servicing registered apprenticeship programs in Massachusetts. DAS connects people to in-demand job opportunities across Massachusetts through equitable access to training and employers. DAS maintains more than 800 apprenticeship programs with over 11,000 apprentices currently working with the vast majority in construction but a growing number of apprentices in expansion industries such as manufacturing, life sciences, and health care.

DAS will award more than $3.4 Million to grantees in Fiscal Year 2025 – more than $2.2 Million in state funds and more than $1.2 Million in federal funds.  These awards will result in more than 575 new apprenticeship and pre-apprentice opportunities in multiple sectors including healthcare, manufacturing, technology, life sciences, financial services, education, construction, and clean energy.
