Gómez appointed Co-Chair of Ellen Story Commission on Postpartum Depression
State Senator Adam Gómez (D-Springfield) announced today he has been appointed by Senate President Karen E. Spilka (D-Ashland) to serve as co-chair of the Ellen Story Commission on Postpartum Depression, a legislative body dedicated to improving maternal mental health outcomes across the Commonwealth.
“It is an honor to be appointed to the Ellen Story Commission on Postpartum Depression, a body whose work is critical to the health and well-being of families across the Commonwealth,” said Senator Gómez. “As a legislator and a father, I am deeply committed to advancing equitable access to maternal mental health care, especially in communities that have historically been underserved. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to ensure that every parent in Massachusetts has the support they need during and after pregnancy.”
Named in honor of former State Representative Ellen Story, a longtime advocate for maternal mental health, the commission brings together legislators, healthcare professionals, advocates, and individuals with lived experience to address the challenge of postpartum depression and perinatal mental health. Its mission is to promote early screening, expand access to culturally responsive care, and advance policies that support mental health and well-being of parents and families.
