Gómez Joins Alzheimer’s Advocacy Day at State House
State Senator Adam Gómez (D-Springfield) joined legislators, healthcare leaders, and advocates at the Massachusetts State House this week for Alzheimer’s Advocacy Day, participating in a panel discussion focused on improving dementia care and advancing the Alzheimer’s Act of 2026 (H.4302/S.2554).
Hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association, the event brought together more than 200 advocates, policymakers, and medical experts to discuss the growing impact of Alzheimer’s disease and the need for coordinated policy solutions to support patients and caregivers across Massachusetts.
“Alzheimer’s is a growing public health challenge that affects families in every corner of the Commonwealth,” said Gómez. “As new research and treatments continue to emerge, Massachusetts must ensure our healthcare systems and public health infrastructure are prepared to support patients and caregivers. This legislation helps move us in that direction.”
The legislation, sponsored by Representative Danielle Gregoire and Senator Gómez, seeks to strengthen the Commonwealth’s response to Alzheimer’s and other dementias by improving care coordination, expanding training and best practices for healthcare providers and first responders, and strengthening statewide leadership on dementia-related issues.
The panel also featured medical experts including Dr. Maura Kennedy of Massachusetts General Hospital and Dr. Daniel Press of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as well as Alzheimer’s advocate Sean Terwilliger, who shared his experience living with the disease.
Following the panel, advocates met with legislators throughout the day to encourage support for the Alzheimer’s Act of 2026 and other policies supporting individuals living with dementia and their caregivers.
