Gomez attends Grand Opening of Western New England University’s Extended Reality Lab

Senator Adam Gomez (D-Springfield) joined State Senator Jake Oliveira (D-Ludlow), Western New England University (WNEU) faculty and students for the grand opening of WNEU’s new Extended Reality (XR) Lab.

“It is undeniable that technology is the driving force shaping countless sectors of our country,” said Senator Gomez. “As such, we must work towards harnessing the power of these technologies and WNEU has done just that. By offering students access to and training with the latest advancements in extended reality technology, we’re cultivating talent with the goal of retaining it here in the Hampden district and Western Massachusetts”.

XR integrates the physical and digital worlds, creating immersive and interconnected 3D environments through technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality. Through XR, WNE students are learning the skills to create immersive worlds, leveraging spatial computing, AI, and advanced technologies to solve real-world challenges—skills that are essential in industries such as healthcare, engineering, marketing, and education.
