Senator Gómez Advances Statewide Priorities in Senate FY27 Budget Debate

State Senator Adam Gómez (D-Springfield) announced today the successful adoption of several budget amendments during the Massachusetts Senate’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget debate, securing statewide investments aimed at expanding economic opportunity, supporting working families, strengthening small businesses, and advancing equity across Massachusetts.

The amendments secured by Senator Gómez focus on workforce development, poverty reduction, housing stability, entrepreneurship, and economic mobility — with a particular emphasis on ensuring historically underserved communities have access to the tools and resources needed to thrive.

“State budgets are statements of values, and these investments reflect our commitment to creating pathways to opportunity for working families, entrepreneurs, and communities that have too often been left behind,” said Senator Gómez. “From supporting small businesses and workforce development to addressing housing stability and economic mobility, these investments help strengthen communities across Massachusetts while building a more equitable economy for everyone.”

Among the statewide amendments secured by Senator Gómez were:

  • Urban Impact Initiative — $250,000

To support poverty reduction efforts, youth development programming, workforce development initiatives, re-entry services, and community-based supports for vulnerable populations.

  • We Are ALX — $200,000

To strengthen Latino entrepreneurship, expand access to capital and technical assistance, and support statewide Latino business growth and leadership development.

  • Coalition for an Equitable Economy — $200,000

To expand economic opportunity for historically underserved entrepreneurs through equitable access to lending resources, business support services, and technical assistance.

  • Bridge to Prosperity — $250,000

To support strategies that help working families overcome economic barriers through career advancement supports, financial coaching, and asset-building opportunities.

  • Housing First Responders — $500,000

To strengthen Housing Consumer Education Centers across Massachusetts that provide critical housing navigation and support services to tenants, landlords, and residents facing housing challenges.

  • Small Business Technical Assistance Program Language Change

To restore and strengthen technical assistance resources for small businesses, helping entrepreneurs access coaching, capital, and tools necessary for long-term success. This adjusts statutory language in the program, establishing a firm deadline for grant awards to ensure predictable, timely support.

The Senate’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget proposal will now move to conference committee negotiations with the House of Representatives before a final budget is sent to Governor Maura Healey for consideration.
