Gómez attends Abbey Brook Restoration Project grand opening

Senator Adam Gomez (D-Springfield) joined, city officials, environmental advocates and local residents today to celebrate the grand opening of the Abbey Brook Restoration Project, a multi-year initiative aimed at revitalizing one of Chicopee’ s vital urban waterways.

“This milestone of the Abbey Brook Restoration Project marks a significant investment in the long-term environmental and recreational health of Chicopee, said Senator Gomez. “Made possible through funding from local ARPA and DER sources, this initiative not only safeguards a vital natural resource but also revitalizes one of the Hampden district’s most treasured parks for generations to enjoy.”

The Abbey Brook Restoration Project was designed to restore natural flow patterns, reduce flooding, improve water quality, and increase biodiversity along the brook, which runs through densely populated sections of Chicopee. The project also enhances public access with new trails, educational signage, and green space for local families to enjoy.
