Gómez joins Pioneer Valley Workers Center vigil for farmworker and PVWC member leader Demetrio

The Pioneer Valley Workers Council hosted a powerful vigil outside Springfield City Hall to call attention to the unjust detention of Demetrio, a beloved local worker and community member who was recently detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“I stand in full solidarity with Demetrio, his loved ones, and every undocumented worker who lives under the daily threat of being torn away from their lives,” said Senator Adam Gómez (D-Springfield). “Demetrio belongs at home — not in a detention center. His only so-called ‘crime’ is working hard to support his family and contribute to this community. This kind of state-sponsored cruelty has no place in Massachusetts.”

The vigil included firsthand testimonies from those who know Demetrio personally. Speakers called for immediate action, including Demetrio’s release from ICE detention and a broader end to the collaboration between local institutions and federal immigration enforcement.
