Gomez joins Department of Public Health for RFR announcement

Senator Adam Gomez (D-Springfield) joins the Department of Public Health in announcing a completed RFR for Women and Non-binary re-entry services. In addition to 4 vendors across Massachusetts, the Bureau of Substance Addiction Services has recommended New North Citizens Council in Springfield provide a counterpart to the existing Black and Latino Men's Re-Entry Services.

“Re-entry services are an invaluable lifeline for any returning citizen preparing to transition back into the community following their release from incarceration,” said Senator Gomez. “The goal of this initiative identified by the Department of Public Health is to build a safe environment that meets the needs of women and nonbinary individuals, in response to high risk for overdose among individuals released from incarceration. I welcome the Department’s recommendation and look forward to New North Citizens Council’s contribution to the lives of individuals in the city of Springfield and throughout the Greater Springfield area.”

Women and Non-binary Re-entry Services include a broad range of services and supports according to the expressed needs of the participants and their individualized service plans and goals. These include but are not limited to: substance use related wellness and recovery programming; trauma-informed care and healing opportunities; connections to communitybased treatment services; wraparound services and case management; health education and resources; fitness and well-being activities; peer support; family services; family reunification supports; community engagement activities; information access through technology tools (e.g., phones and internet access); transportation assistance; housing assistance; and vocational training/job placement services.
