Gomez joins Secretary Tutwiler for “Higher Ed Financial Aid Road Show” in Springfield
State Senator Adam Gomez (D-Springfield) joined State Senator Oliveira, State Representatives Gonzalez, Ramos, and Williams, and Central High School faculty and students for Secretary of Education Patrick Tutwiler’s Higher Education Financial Road Show. The “Road Show” aims to increase exposure and access to higher education for K-12 students and encourage students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and apply for the nearly $400 million available in state financial aid.
“Building on the success of MassReconnect alongside the Healey-Driscoll administration and colleagues in the legislature, students across Massachusetts regardless of immigration status can take advantage of financial aid opportunities with the passage of MassEducate last session,” said Senator Adam Gomez. “I am incredibly honored to have contributed to the passage of this historic piece of legislation and grateful to Secretary Tutwiler for visiting the City of Springfield to speak to our young people”.
The new MassEducate program covers tuition and fees for all eligible students and provides up to $1,200 for books and supplies for low- or middle-income students. The program also expands eligibility for in-state college tuition to students who have attended Massachusetts high schools for at least three years and earned a Massachusetts diploma, regardless of immigration status.
