Gomez selected to Chair Cannabis and Community Development & Small Business
State Senator Adam Gomez (D-Springfield) has been selected by Senate President Karen Spilka to serve as Senate Chair of the Joint Committees on Cannabis Policy and Community Development and Small Business. He has also been selected to serve as Vice Chair of the Joint Committees on Racial Equity, Civil Rights and Inclusion and Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development.
This session marks the third year Senator Gomez has served as the Chair of Cannabis Policy, an area where significant milestones have been met, and outstanding work remains. “I’m grateful to Senate President Spilka for her vote of confidence in me to continue as Chair of Cannabis Policy, and tasking me with Community Development and Small Business,” said Senator Gomez. “Last year, the Healey-Driscoll administration launched the Cannabis Social Equity Trust Fund and answered President Biden’s call to for issuing pardons for those convicted of state marijuana offenses. For this session, I recognize there is a dire need to continue advancing comprehensive legislation that not only addresses the structure of marijuana businesses and employee rights in the cannabis industry but also emphasizes a commitment to creating career pathways for incarcerated individuals significantly affected by prohibition era measures.”
In addition to the two Chairmanships, Senator Gomez will be serving as a member of the Senate Committees on Ways and Means, Climate Change and Global Warming, and Juvenile and Emerging Adult Justice. He will also serve as a member on the Joint Committees on Financial Services and Emergency Preparedness and Management.
