Gomez Secures Funding for childcare programming in Springfield

State Senator Adam Gómez (D-Springfield) has announced that an initiative he sponsored during the Senate budget debate aimed at boosting childcare programming in Springfield was adopted by the body. Through an amendment submitted by the third term Senator, Square One will receive $50,000 to support at-risk children, addressing learning gaps and preparing students for school achievement.  

Gómez had this to say on the amendment being adopted, “Square One's investment in me at an early age led to me becoming the first Puerto Rican in the Massachusetts State Senate. I am proud to see this legislature prioritize funding that will support Square One’s wide range of family-friendly education and support services that are unique to each child and every family served.” 

Square One’s programs include early education and care at centers in Springfield, home-based care settings located throughout greater Springfield, and out of school time care for elementary school age children. Their parent education, support and training programs are offered through groups, home visitation and personalized case management to help parents access whatever services are needed to be successful in their role as their child’s first teacher.
